About EWB

Engineers Without Borders Nigeria was stated in at the Federal University of Technology Yola Nigeria in 1998 as Environmental Watchtower, a student movement to transform the way education happens. It was formed because a group of students found the way engineering education was being taught to be boring, so they came together and devised a programme to integrate applications into the curriculum of education by adding value to first the University environment and then the communities.

In 2005, it changed its name to become Engineers Without Borders Nigeria. Engineers Without Borders - Nigeria (www.ewb.org.ng) is a member of the global network, engineers without borders international (www.ewbinternational.org) , based in the US and with presence in more than 20 nations. The organization is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, youth development, humanitarian and educational purpose more specifically to support and partner to deliver training, projects, educational and informational activities to increase public awareness of the engineering profession.

We partner and collaborate with individuals, organizations, institutions, companies and government on projects that bring sustainable development to underprivileged communities. We believe engineers are problem solvers. However, the skill necessary to be successful engineer are always changing and encompass much more than technical knowledge. Engineers not only do something – they get things done.

Engineers translate dreams, ideas, hopes, and concepts into reality – enduring reality by energizing STEMD education to be more pragmatic and defused on solving real life problems in the society. We teach students how to solve Nigeria’s most challenging social problems through design.

Engineering is an art that applies science, technical and social approach to provide solutions to human and community problems, thereby meeting the need of the present and proffering solutions to the needs of the future. EWB – Nigeria supports community – driven development programs worldwide by collaborating with local partners to design and implement sustainable engineering projects, while creating transformative experiences and responsible leaders.

Our vision is a world in which communities we serve have the capacity to sustainably meet their basic human needs, and that our members have enriched global perspective through the innovative professional education opportunities that our program provides.
